Apple tree planting 2019

Gavinton

On Saturday 23rd February 2019, with the invaluable help of around 40 kind volunteers, Andrew and Alexa Millar of West Bastlebog House, Gavinton successfully planted 104 Bloody Ploughman and ten other Scottish rare variety apple trees. The sun shone, the mulled cider flowed, the organically reared barbecue food from Windshiel Farm was enthusiastically munched and they met many lovely new neighbours for the first time. It was an anxious lead up to the event for the Millars as, being February, it could have been snowing or even just frozen ground, let alone trees missing in transit or no volunteers. Let’s hope this auspicious start for the apple trees will lead to many years of fruitful harvests that can be shared by all
