The Scottish Government announced plans in 2016 to bring superfast broadband to everyone in Scotland by 2021, known as the R100 programme

The arrival of R100 was the reason the Berwickshire Community Broadband Project was suspended
- R100 contracts were originally due to be awarded by the end of 2018 and completed by 2021
- The contract for Southern Scotland (Lot 3) was awarded in October 2019; broadly the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway
- Approximately 26,090 premises
- Estimated value of Lot 3 is £133 million, excluding VAT
- Construction is due to start in summer 2020
- Completion of Lot 3 is now scheduled for summer 2024
